Importance and general aspects:
The houses of Kaleiçi, which have survived to the present day, are the structures built in the 19th and 20th centuries, except for a few apartments built afterwards. These houses, which are generally intended for large families to live together, are used for sheltering, especially for cultural and commercial purposes. All of them are designed as two floors and generally wood is used as material. The rooms on the upper floor, facing the street, have large windows called bay windows. On the front facades of the houses and generally under the roof and bay window, ivy branches made of plaster relief, moon and star, flowers and landscapes are seen. There are Corinthian column heads on the corner walls of the houses16.
